All Yours

May 24, 2008

I must say that I was proud of my daughter, Alexandra, as she sang with me publicly for the first time. I don’t think I’ve ever been so nervous. Looks like I’ll be taking a backseat to my daughter…the star

First of all, Wikipedia defines static cling as caused by static electricity, usually due to rubbing as in a clothes dryer (the Triboelectric effect).

We had a double-header in softball last night. I had to come straight from work so I just grabbed my shorts and went on my way. While I was changing in the car I noticed that the static cling fairy had paid my shorts a visit. So I had to let people know that I was well aware of that fact so as to avoid any awkwardness between my teammates. As the night wore on, the shorts became more disoriented and I began making desperate pleas with anyone (including the umpire) who might help me. Soon my shorts had overtaken me and teammates began to observe that they gave the illusion of a cheap pair of spandex! Oh well…we won both games and my shorts were punished with static spray as soon as I got home.

Feels Like Redemption

May 21, 2008

Micheal English has a new song out that I’ll be humming over the course of the next few days. It’s called “Feels Like Redemption.” Tonight we won our game against Christ United 8-6. It was a game that could have went either way. Christ United handed us a key loss last year and it was the beginning of our end, so it felt like redemption in a corporate sense. It also felt like redemption in a personal sense. We entered the top of the 7th inning at 6-6. I found myself at the plate with bases loaded and I was able to collect myself from another dreary hitting streak and drive in the winning run. It sorta made up for my earlier let-down vs. CEC. I’m sure this season will be full of let-downs and redemptions, such is life. I’m just glad I serve a God who has redeemed me for all time…bad hitting streaks and all.

It has been over 10 years since I first decided to fully commit my life to Jesus Christ. And almost from the beginning music has played a key role in my gifts to the Body of Christ. Recently I have felt the Lord really speaking to me about a new season of life that was less focused on music and more focused on discipleship. Now I understand that discipleship needs to be a part of every believers life regardless of their specific calling, but I am referring to a real deep study of God’s word and committing scripture to my heart.

I am no longer leading worship and I’ve put off recording a CD until the indefinite future. It’s not to say that I won’t ever record again, I’m just shifting my focus. There’s a possibility of planting a church in the Seaford area but it’s way to soon to tell if that is where the Lord is leading me. In the meantime…I’m just enjoying the ride.

Double Header

May 14, 2008

Last night we picked up two much needed wins in a double header. First we defeated Laurel Nazarene Green 10-0. We then beat Gethesemane 17-2. My performance was nothing to write home about. I need to be more consistent when batting. Wish I had a good excuse as to my poor hitting streak…maybe it’s the fact that I was a soccer player my whole life!! Yeah…that’ll work. Next time I’ll try to drop kick the ball and see what happens. Current record 3-1.

And it might as well be me. We lost our first home game to C.E.C tonight 10-7. I went through a wave of emotions that I never felt possible. First we were losing…then we tied things all up heading into the last inning…then we gave up three runs. Then I got up as the tying run (after hitting a home run my last at bat) with two outs bottom of the 7th. I took th e first pitch which was a strike and then I knew I was finished. I had to swing at the next pitch even if I had to chase it down!! I hit a little blooper right to the pitcher. Ah yes…how sweet it is. Oh, that was after I let one go right through my legs in left field. I’ll spend the rest of tonight reliving what might have been, then tomorrow I’ll thump my chest and say what a brave charge it was…wait a minute…that was a line from Gettysburg…nevermind…someone has to make the last out.

Well we played our first softball game tonight in Seaford.  We beat Atlanta Road 21-19!!  We scored 12 runs in the top of the first, then ARAC scored 8 runs behind us.  I knew it was going to be a long night!!  You can follow all the scores and standings at www.cfsoftball.org

We host Christ Evangelistic on Thursday night at 7 pm.  I must get some rest before I let the dawgs out the cage!!  Go Central!!

And So It Begins…

May 6, 2008

Few sports dominate the landscape then Church League Softball (sinister laughing with thunder).  I am beginning my third season with Central Worship Center in Laurel.  I will use this blog to share in my exploits.  Hopefully we will fare well.  And maybe we’ll actually be a witness for the Lord…just a thought.  If I hear the word “evangelism” and “church league softball” in the same sentence…anyway…onward Christian Sluggers!!
