Fitness Update:
September 30, 2008
It’s been awhile since I reported my progress in training to run a 5k. After taking over a week off I’ve resumed my daily fitness routine (which is really no routine at all). It’s hard to get back into something when you take time off. I went for a bike ride for the first time in 10 years. It was killer on the ol’ thighs!! I found myself trying to do the “ride with no hands” routine and I momentarily lost control and nearly plowed into a mailbox…all is well though. I’ve also started lifting some light weights to help my aging upper body. Ahh…the joys of getting older. Not sure if I’m going to feel ready for the Hogg Jogg coming up in two weeks. And I’m not really sure if I want to be ready for a race called “Hogg Jogg”. Only in my beloved Sussex County. I love this place!!
The Sonflowerz
September 25, 2008
This morning the radio station was visited by an indie group called “The Sonflowerz”. They spent the better part of an hour taking phone calls and hanging out. I always appreciate when artist take the time to interact with listeners. They’re heading back to Colorado where they’re from. You can check out their music at sonflowerz.com
PS – That’s me in the middle. I’m not a Sunflower.
Update:Runners Block
September 24, 2008
Today is like day 30 something in my quest to get in shape and run a local 5k. I’ve not run much over the past week. I think I’ve got “runners block”, kinda like writers block but without the writing part. I’ve gotten up to 3 mile runs and need to keep going. I just hate running on the road and it’s never convenient to ride to the track. This is make or break time. It’s easy to get off your routine if your not consistent. I’m thinking that I won’t be ready for the Apple Scrapple 5k if I don’t get on it!!
Interactive Worship
September 23, 2008
As a worship leader I see all types of ways we worship. I hope you can relax and have a sense of humor with this video. The guy is Jared Bayless. He is an independent artist that we play on our station. Enjoy!
Growing Old With Grace
September 12, 2008
So I just recently turned 30. I decided I needed to start living healthy and am trying to lose some weight and running. Things are going pretty well. It’s been 20 days without a soda and I’ve been pretty good with my eating habits. I say all that to say that in spite of my efforts to stay “forever young”, I’m growing old.
Certain things have happened to make me more aware of my mortality. I help with a local high school soccer team and today I tried to run with them and I just got SMOKED!! My mind knew where my body should be, but my body never got the message!! It’s hard when you’re competitive to watch your pitiful little self fall apart. It’s not all that bad. I’m sure with more training it would a closer run. Listen to me talk…I shouldn’t care about beating high school kids half my age! That’s not “growing old with grace”. You need to just learn what to accept and do what you can with what you have. Anyway…I’m only 30. I bet I could beat a 40 year old…I have no shame!!

Delayed Shock Value
September 8, 2008
This past weekend I have several things to report. Despite tropical storm conditions I was still able to run 2 miles on Friday and Sunday. Starting to get my feet under me. Although running is hard on my body. Feels like I lost my shins a mile back sometimes!!
My middle daughter Alaina did something big. She decided (after I bribed her with a webkinz) that she would get her ears pierced. So we went to the mall and the girls there were great to work with. Our daughter did a great job until an hour after she had her ears pierced…she had a delayed shock reaction and I began to questions my bribery tactics after she said her earring hurt and she wanted them out. After an ice cream she settled down. I don’t recommend bribing, but to all the parents…you understand.
UPDATE: Today Alaina pulled one of her earrings out while twisting it. It made for a very dramatic scene while mommy had to put the earring in backwards because it wouldn’t go in from the front!! I’m gonna miss this when my kids grow up!
Day 14
September 6, 2008
Ran two miles last night and realized that I need to pick up my pace. Even if it means I don’t run as far. It’s good to keep your heart rate up to at least 60%. Not sure if I’m gonna be ready for a 5k yet. Maybe I’ll shoot for a spring run.
Day 12
September 4, 2008
Twelve days ago I weighed 207.5 lbs. Today I weighed in at 200.5 lbs. My BMI (body mass index) has dropped from overweight (25.90) to normal (24.90). Seven pounds is great but I still need to lose another 10 lbs. or so. It’s all about feeling better. Running has been getting easier. I’ll go into detail later as to what I have changed in order to lose weight. Most people would be surprised to know that just cutting out junk can help a lot!! Now it’s back to training for the big 5k wherever it may be.
Day 11
September 3, 2008
Went to the dentist today and got two cavities drilled. My dentist is old and forgot I was there… I laid in the chair for two hours!! I passed the time watching the us open and explaining the rules of tennis to his assistant. Oh well…could be worse…it could have been figure skating!!
I’m continuing to do well with training for the big 5k run. I went to the track and ran 3 miles tonight. I love running in the dark with my ipod on. It’s also a good time to just pray and hear from the Lord. Although I’m starting to get headaches from very little sugar and no caffeine. This to shall pass…
